IronFist provides fans with the latest of his blogs ahead of the clash at West Bromwich Albion:

It has been a fabulous 2007 for United, with the club plying their trade in the second tier of English football for the first time in 43 years.

It was a great start to the year, with Scunthorpe unbeatable for the first three months and cruising their way to the League One title.

There were a couple of defeats in April, but the promotion and title-winning matches against Huddersfield and Carlisle will live long in the memory - as will the final three weeks of the season, after which promotion had already been secured.

We started off life in the Championship so well, and some supporters - perhaps - felt an unlikely play-off push was on the cards.

However, since then the club has struggled to maintain the momentum and slipped down the table to 23rd.

Nevertheless, Christmas brought new optimism and a magnificent 1-0 win at Preston on Boxing Day has got supporters believing again that the Iron can survive at this level.

It was a hard-earned three points. The home team failed to offer much in the first half and Scunthorpe took advantage - managing to get a vital goal three minutes before half-time.

Preston came out resurged for the second half but United held on and secured a great win.

Cliff Byrne, who has done magnificently to recover so quickly from a broken leg, certainly didn't deserve his red card for two bookings, but he can be encouraged by how he helped his side to a first clean sheet in two months.

Can a memorable year end in style on Saturday when we visit league leaders West Brom? Here's hoping. Stranger things have happened in football.

Until next time...

Up the Iron!
