Scunthorpe were involved in the semi-finals of the Lincolnshire Cup and faced a Lincoln Moorlands team from below them in the pyramid.

It was always going to be an uphill struggle for the home side even though Scunthorpe had not played a game in three weeks, are unbeaten in a couple of months, and are one of the better sides away from home playing in the Northern Combinations.

It was a promising start for Railway who hung on for about 17 minutes and contained the star performer Claire West on several breaks before striker Lisa Telford struck home from seven yards.

West was applying lots of pressure on the right wing and struck another shot two minutes later before the first Railway foray in to the Scunthorpe half came to nothing.

Sue Hunsley, the left-winger for Scunthorpe, niggled the home side all through the match and appeared on the scoresheet after 29 minutes with a strike from just outside the penalty box.

The last two minutes of normal time resulted in a corner from the right clearing everyone including the keeper for a typical Sue Green goal.

A minute later and the score was added to after an own goal was deflected in.

The game was effectively over in the early stages of the second half as Mandy Cook scored from a headed corner on 55 minutes and then Claire West completed her brace, and Jo Moorhouse got on the scoresheet with a clinical strike.

Railway were reeling from the onslaught and were waving the white flag after Lisa Telford, then Sue Hunsley, and substitute Carrie Dodge - with the strike of the game on 73 minutes - rounding up the score neatly to 10-0 before the final whistle thankfully came for the home side.

Claire West was MOTM.
