DESCRIPTION

Stewards should be fit, active, usually not less than 18 years

Stewards are deployed to assist in the safe operation of the ground before, during and after an event

DATE

AIM

  • Stewards to be involved in ejections and dealing with conflict
  • To be involved in customer care and be expected to call on a Supervisor or specialist stewards for assistance in dealing with breaches of ground regulations.

OVERALL OBJECTIVES

  • To assist the Safety Officer, to ensure, as far as reasonably practicable, the safety of everyone attending events at the stadium in accordance with the Safety Certificate and the Clubs' Safety Policy for spectators.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • To assist in implementing the club Health and Safety Policy as required under the Health & Safety at Work Act 1974
  • To assist in all safety related issues
  • To be conversant with the Senior Stewards job description
  • To be available for all games
  • To undertake specific duties in the event of any incident which might give rise to an emergency situation
  • To undertake other duties as required, which will assist in maximising stewarding performance
  • To undertake training as necessary to carry out above roles

DUTIES INCLUDE

  • Attend the Stadium at given dates and times as dictated by the Stadium Manager/Safety Officer
  • Attend pre-event briefing and ensure all information is understood. Do not leave the stadium after signing in until the end of your duties
  • Attend all training sessions required of you
  • To be responsible for the safety and comfort of spectators within a designated area at all times.
  • Check your exit gate functions correctly, open and close to ensure there are no faults or blocked walkways
  • Staff your designated area and do not leave your post unless relieved by another Steward and authorised by a Supervisor
  • Ensure if on a gate that it is unlocked but closed during the event, only open for staff
  • Report any spectators trying to gain entrance through your gate
  • Monitor the crowd throughout the ground for signs of distress or overcrowding and take action in accordance with standing instructions
  • Report to Supervisors incidents of disorder and breach of ground rules
  • Ensure that gangways and exits are kept clear
  • Identify and report any incident or occurrence among spectators
  • Know the location of and be able to operate effectively the fire fighting equipment at the ground
  • Know the location of the First Aid room and any firstaid equipment kept elsewhere
  • Be aware of the code words used to alert staff that an emergency has arisen
  • Be capable of recognising potential fire hazards and suspect packages, reporting such findings immediately to the Senior Steward or the Safety Officer
  • Comply promptly with any instruction given in an emergency by the Safety Officer, Senior or Safety Steward or a Police Officer
  • Report any damage or defect to the Senior or Safety Steward
  • Assist as required in the evacuation of the ground.
