United made it seven wins from seven with a routine 2-0 victory over Yeovil Town.
Scunthorpe were dominant against the Glovers and fully deserved the win.
It could have been by far more, but captain Izzy Iriekpen's first-half strike and an own goal from Terrell Forbes were enough for Nigel Adkins' men, who stay second in the league but move level on point with leaders Oldham, who dropped two points in a 1-1 home draw with Huddersfield.
The Iron named an unchanged side for the home encounter against Yeovil Town. United boss Nigel Adkins kept faith with the team that had beaten Hereford 2-1 at Edgar Street a week earlier. Joe Murphy began the game in goal, with Cliff Byrne, iriekpen, Krystian Pearce and Marcus Williams forming the back four. The midfield consisted of Matt Sparrow, Sam Togwell, Grant McCann and Martyn Woolford, while Paul Hayes and Gary Hooper lined up in attack. The substitutes were Josh Lillis, David Mirfin, Kevan Hurst, Ian Morris and Ben May.
Scunthorpe started in the sunshine with intent and had their first real chance of the game on four minutes when Hayes' shot from the right angle of the penalty area bounced back into play off the inside of the post following good pressure from Hooper on the visiting goalkeeper.
The former Barnsley frontman then had another chance two minutes later when Sparrow's pass was only partially cleared and Hayes' drilled strike was tipped out by Asmir Begovic.
Woolford's header from a Sparrow cross was then well-saved by Begovic down to his bottom right-hand post as the home pressure intensified.
On 12 minutes, McCann flashed a low drifting free-kick wide of Begovic's bottom left-hand post with his left foot from 30 yards as the game continued to go the hosts' way.
The pressure continued, with Yeovil well pegged back, although despite their dominance the chances weren't as forthcoming as they were in the opening stages.
However, the Iron eventually took a deserved lead on 27 minutes when Iriekpen was there at the back post to get on the end of a McCann corner and direct a stooping header over Begovic and into the back of the visitors' net for his first strike of the season and second competitive goal in a Scunthorpe shirt.
Paul Warne registered the away team's first shot on goal in the 42nd minute when he got on the end of a cross from Aidan Downes. His drilled effort was well saved by Murphy though.
The stopper came to the rescue again two minutes later when Warne capitalised on defensive uncertainty to almost round the stopper. The Irishman was too fast though and did well to snatch the ball from under the striker's feet.
The final chance of the half came in stoppage time when McCann's drilled strike was well saved by Begovic.
Sparrow had the first chance of the second half when Woolford drove forward into space and passed the ball to the right-sided midfielder. He then clipped an effort just over the crossbar.
Begovic then needed to be at full stretch to tip out a Woolford cross which looked like sneaking over him into the back of the net.
Scunthorpe finally made it two on 62 minutes when Woolford got on the end of Byrne's deep cross from the right and knocked the ball back into the 12-yard box for Forbes to knock into his own goal.
The hosts made their first change of the game six minutes later when May came on for Hayes.
The game was won already, and the match petered out with not many chances coming at either end.
McCann's free-kick drew a save from Begovic with eight minutes left but, that apart, there was little else, apart from an an Iriekpen free-kick from 25 yards going just wide, as Glanford Park became overcast.
Scunthorpe were fully deserving of their win, and will be looking to make it eight successive wins in all competitions at Leyton Orient next Saturday.
