Midfielder Jack Cork, set for a return to Chelsea after a season-long loan spell at Glanford Park, is grateful to Scunthorpe boss Nigel Adkins for giving him the chance to show what he can do in the Championship.

The 18-year-old has romped to nine player of the season wins at the two annual end of year award ceremonies held earlier this week, and has won numerous man of the match accolades as well as taking several column inches for his performances over the campaign.

He is yet another example of United's faith in youth being a successful formula.

"I like that they take a chance on players here, they took a chance on me when I first came," he told the Scunthorpe Telegraph.

"You never know what you're going to get until you work with a player and, luckily, the manager has given me a chance and it's paid off for me.

"Obviously clubs like this can make the players into big names.

"It happened last year with Billy Sharp and Andy Keogh and I like that about this club.

"I've really enjoyed it here, it definitely couldn't have gone any better for me, even when I wasn't playing I was still learning a lot, mentally.

"And when I did get in I was ready for it."
