MEDIA: BUTLER, JACKSON AND HORSFIELD
Posted on: Tue 24 Jun 2008
A round-up of Tuesday's Iron-related stories in the local and national media:
United's acting chairman Rex Garton says there is still every chance that the club will keep out-of-contract defender Andy Butler.
The 24-year-old centre-back can leave the club on a Bosman, but Garton is hopeful Butler will be starting pre-season training with Scunthorpe next Tuesday.
"If we were not bothered about Andy, we would have killed it by now," he told the Scunthorpe Telegraph.
"But we are trying to make every effort within our means to keep him here at Glanford Park.
"Our manager spoke again with Andy yesterday - and our hopes are still alive.
"But we have now got to a stage where we really need an answer, one way or the other.
"Because if Andy does decide to go, then we have got to look for a replacement."
Elsewhere, veteran Blackpool defender Michael Jackson has revealed that he turned down the advances of Scunthorpe to sign for League Two outfit Shrewsbury Town.
He told BBC Radio Shropshire: "I had a choice to go to Scunthorpe, but I felt this was the right move."
Meanwhile, the Daily Mirror report that Sheffield Wednesday are set to snap up former Iron loanee Geoff Horsfield on a free transfer.
