MEDIA: IRON PULL OUT OF GILLESPIE RACE
Posted on: Mon 30 Jun 2008
A round-up of Monday's Iron-related stories in the local and national media:
United won't be following up their interest in striker Steven Gillespie after his current club Cheltenham Town turned down a bid of £450,000 from another team for his services.
He also denied an interest in two of the played most linked to Scunthorpe this summer.
Adkins told the Scunthorpe Telegraph: "We are, as we always have been, looking elsewhere.
"I know there is mass speculation about players that we might be interested in.
"But we have not spoken to Chesterfield about Jamie Ward and we have not spoken to Mansfield about Michael Boulding.
"What we are going to do is bring in another striker who can help us score goals, to add to the three players we already have here, who I am very happy with."
Adkins expects Marcus Williams to return for the start of pre-season training on Tuesday despite being out of contract.
Elsewhere, former Iron midfielder Neil MacKenzie's appearance on Channel Four quiz Countdown is getting a lot of column inches in the nationals.
