United's reserve team were defeated 2-0 by their Lincoln City counterparts at Sincil Bank on Wednesday afternoon.

A side largely made up of youth team players took on an Imps' XI, which included first team stars Ryan Semple, Ben Wright and Dany N'Guessan.

Scunthorpe had their first chance of the opening period on 43 minutes when Ayden Duffy tipped Peter Winn's free-kick over the crossbar. He was one of only two professionals on the field for Tony Daws' side - Joe Wilcox was the other.

Lincoln were in control for most of the game and finally went ahead through Semple on 53 minutes, as he powered home after receiving a flick-on from Wright.

They had a great chance to double their advantage when N'Guessan missed a penalty just moments later, the former Rangers man was sent sprawling in the box by Jack Webster. However, his penalty was weak and Craig Turner easily saved.

The Iron thought they had levelled proceedings on 65 minutes when Niall Canavan headed home from a corner but the offside flag was raised.

But Lincoln finally did double their advantage on 74 minutes when substitute Lenny John-Lewis converted a cross by Martin Pembleton.

It was the reserve team's second loss of the campaign.
