United striker Martin Paterson has been selected for the Football League's Championship team of the week after the 3-2 defeat at Stoke City.

The forward hit the target for Scunthorpe on seven minutes to hand his side a fantastic start at the Britannia Stadium, and put a typical energetic display in up front against his former club.

The Iron were two goals ahead at half-time after Jack Hobbs' header added to the score.

However, the hosts hit back in the second half and struck through Liam Lawrence, Richard Cresswell, and then Lawrence again to seal a big win for them, and a disappointing loss for the North Lincolnshire side - who looked so comfortable at half-time.

Paterson joins fellow United stars Cliff Byrne, Joe Murphy, Jack Cork, Kevan Hurst, Andy Crosby, Izzy Iriekpen and Jim Goodwin in being selected for the team at one stage or another.
