THERE IS STILL EVERYTHING TO PLAY FOR
United manager Nigel Adkins says there is still time for his team to upset the bookmakers and pundits alike by surviving in the Championship.
The Iron are odds-on to drop down to League One with six matches remaining, as they sit six points adrift of safety.
Nevertheless, the spirit amongst the squad at Glanford Park is still sky-high.
Scunthorpe head to fellow strugglers Leicester City at the weekend and know that a victory can bring a pivotal twist in the fight for Championship survival.
"Of course we can do it," said Adkins, when asked if there was still a possibility of survival.
"We have got to believe we can do it - stranger things have happened.
"Look at West Ham last year - they won eight out of their last nine games.
"Look at West Bromwich Albion in the Premiership. Nobody thought they could do it, but they managed to do it on the last day of the season. It is all there to play for.
"We play Leicester City on Saturday - they are six points in front of us. All of a sudden, if we beat them, they are three points in front of us. Then we go and play Sheffield Wednesday. It gives us an opportunity to pick up some points.
"The league table is so close, and so competitive. We have got to keep believing, keep playing and taking the games as they come.
"We will work very, very hard - as we have done all season. We have always been up against it because of the finances. The fan base dictates the finances that come into football clubs.
"We have competed though, and have competed very, very well."
