Port Vale's former Scunthorpe midfielder Paul Harsley has agreed to join League Two side Chesterfield.

The 29-year-old has turned down a new deal at Vale Park to sign for the Saltergate club.

Harsley told chesterfield-fc.co.uk: "Although I was happy at Port Vale I liked the sound of what was happening here and decided that Chesterfield was the better option for me."

He joined the Iron from Grimsby Town in 1997 and spent four seasons with Brian Laws' men before moving on to Halifax, Northampton and Macclesfield.
