Former Iron striker Daniel McBreen has spurned the advances of clubs in his native Australia to sign for Blue Square Premier League outfit York City.

He had been linked with switches to Wellington Phoenix and Adelaide United, but has instead decided to join the Minstermen.

The 31-year-old enjoyed a successful five-game loan spell at Kit-Kat Crescent last season, scoring two goals and making a very positive impression.

"I'm delighted to have persuaded Daniel to join us," said York boss Colin Walker.

"He is a big strong centre forward who will lead our strike force well next season.

"He is the final piece in the jigsaw and I now feel that we have a squad of players ready to compete in the Blue Square Premier next season."

McBreen spent just over a year with United, making just one league start.in an injury-plagued spell.
