IT'S ALL EXCITING - ADKINS
Posted on: Fri 08 Aug 2008
Iron manager Nigel Adkins is buzzing about the start of the new campaign, which sees Leeds United visit Glanford Park on Saturday.
Gary McAllister's side are favourites for promotion from the division, and an exciting afternoon looks in store as Scunthorpe look to get their first three points of the season in front of a near sell-out crowd.
"It's an exciting time," said Adkins, speaking on Iron World.
"We've had pre-season, we've put that to bed. It's out of the way now, and the lads look in really good spirits. They're looking sharp and up for it.
"We're all excited with the anticipation of the first game of the season, there will be a full house at Glanford Park with the mighty Leeds United coming to town.
"They have high aspirations of winning the division, they play great football. I've watched them myself in pre-season and Gary McAllister - renowned as a great football playe rin his time - has certainly got them playing a passing brand of football that's good on the eye to watch.
"And they've got massive expectations to win the division and get promoted. They narrowly missed out last season.
"It should be a cracking game for us, they're the benchmark but we're quietly confident that we've got ourselves in a nice position at the moment.
"It's going to be a long ten months but we want to get off to a good start.
"We'll have a full house on Saturday, and the supporters can go out and be as vocal as they can - really sing because this game has been built up all summer.
"It is a great fixture for us, and hopefully we can go out and really entertain the supporters."
