United completed the signing of Huddersfield Town defender David Mirfin for £150,000, plus add-ons and a 25 per cent sell-on clause, in August 2008.
The centre-back signed a three-year contract with the Iron.
Aged 23, the Sheffield-born player has been with the Terriers all his career.
He is a powerful, commanding defender who helped Huddersfield to promotion from the Third Division in 2004.
Weighing over 14 stone, and standing at 6' 1'', he also possesses a great turn of pace and his nickname is 'The Ox'.
The arrival of former Scunthorpe defender Andy Butler meant limited first team opportunities for Mirfin, who will be looking to show his undoubted potential at Glanford Park.
He has made over 150 league appearances, scoring nine goals, and became the club's sixth signing since the end of last season.
